“216”

is a personal project of a documentary, artistic, cultural and social structure. 216 represent the number of pregnancy days – from the moment one finds out the great news until the actual birth; and 2008 is obviously the year these days have been spent in.

216 is a photo and video project, which allows us to rediscover ourselves as individuals, through the art of drawing. We have attempted to change the relationship with the everyday, the commonplace, and the usual. The belly has become a social place where we question the urban and rural identity through the lens of a new experience, the experience of preparing for a new life, which in turn triggers a new attitude. We express our thoughts, confusions and feelings encountered during this period regarding the society, the politics, the natural disasters, the global warming, the start of the financial meltdown worldwide, the current situation of art in today’s society, the supermarket, the shopping mall, with the tarmac, the concrete, the grass, the tree, the park, the boulevard, the streets and so on. This way I have auto-invited myself to getting involved, to make a stand, to have an attitude, to make a social and cultural gesture in the same time.

The project is meant to be a calendar of the inner personal feelings, presented sequentially but also a history of the external events during this period – it is an interior versus exterior calendar.

The photos were chosen more like a document, without any speculations to the artistic load they might carry.

The project starts on 10-03-2008.

216 project

I was going through a rather bleak period in our lives. I had no home … due to unfortunate circumstances I was left without the house I used to live in. Me and my husband lived in our workshop of about 25 square meters; both of us thinking how can we make it through this crisis. And that’s when this project started. It was a starting point towards normality, towards giving our lives a new meaning and towards enjoying it and fighting for it.

I didn’t think at the time that the drawings that I would do on my belly which I was capturing on the camera would grown into a project. They were simply my thoughts, thoughts that were going through my mind at the time, or simple events during the day. The political situation or social events, which I thought to be important, were all noted on the belly. The project “happened” throughout 4 places during those 216 (places where we lived, literally, at the time).

All the feelings from finding out that I am going to be parent, then first scan, finding out it’s going to be a girl, then it was a boy and finally at birth to find out that it is girl after all…all of these went through a drawing. In fact all the events in my life during the 216 days have been transposed on the belly. I have considered that the drawing is the best tool to communication for this project. It is sincere and it is every expressive after all.

Each photo drawing is accompanied by a short text, explaining what happened that day and my explanation behind choosing that drawing.

From this perspective, the project is a drawn diary.

The 216 aspects highlight all the changes that took place from the depressing beginning to the final point filled with enthusiasm and joy. “START” is the message of photo no. 216 and it is the beginning of a new life for me.

I have conceived a chapter about me and our child – a chapter about the history of a new life inside the mother’s womb. I used the belly to draw the symbols and the shortcomings of today’s society. The days have gone by and these shortcomings have become history … a history of the current society. In a few years time they will be demolished and replaced by others… On this support you can find contrasts, disillusions, joys… Each individual has a life, an identity. The dot in the first picture has become a being who lives with me from now on, who suffers next to me when I am upset and is happy with me when I succeed.

Alina Tudor Born in 1980 in Constanta, Romania and Razvan Neagoe born in 1974 in Bucharest, Romania. Both lives and works in London, UK. They Graduated at the National University of Bucharest. Founding of focAR group in 2006 and they are Member of Professional Artist Union from Romania. Since 2006 they are an active member in the public and community art program called “I Love Bucharest”.

MOnuMENTS 2007-2010

MOnuMENTS is an artistic project, which proposes a cultural and social reflection; aiming at a dialogue between rural and urban spaces, between different mentalities, between past and present. MOnuMENTS present the moment when the monument was erected and the moment when we documented.

MOnuMENTS is a natural, organic response from the artists to all these mutations and reconfigurations of the present time. The immediate result is the documentation of the diversity as a mixture between the urban and rural development, between cultural gestures and collective and individual gestures.

Red Spot 2008In 2008, the Red Spot project was part of the program of public art I love Bucharest, part of the European Year for Intercultural Dialogue, which was supported by ProHelvetia through United Experts. It is an art gesture constructed as a signal-project, a project meant to warn the people of Bucharest –inhabitants and authorities, individuals and private companies – and it had as objectives: a building, a street or a monument.In 2008 proiectul Red Spot a facut parte din Programul de arta publica I love Bucharest in cadrul Anului European al Dialogului Intercultural (A.D.E.I) si sustinut de ProHelvetia prin United Experts. UT is a signal-project, a social one, meaning to draw the citizen’s attention on his identity. This concept was developed in a form of work-in-progress activities each activity in it making each time the project even more complex and complete. Therefore it is under a continuous change and modification gathering “traces” with each presentation.

UT este un proiect semnal – social care doreste sa atraga atentia individului orasului asupra identitatii sale. Acesta este conceput sub forma unui work-in-progress, ceea ce inseamna ca fiecare orpire si fiecare actiune din cadrul acestuia fac proiectul sa fie mai complet si mai complex. Este asadar in continua transformare, adunand “urme” cu fiecare reprezentare a sa.

The public art project Red Spot came to life in 2007, in partnership with architect Adriana Mereuta and the University of Architecture and Urbanism “Ion Mincu”. The project had its first sighting in “start Dambovita” where it “signaled” one of the biggest problems in the Romanian capital – the Dambovita river (expo / polls / performance / promo / artistic montage). The project is meant to underline parts of Bucharest left to rust, which however are representative for the city – thus presenting them to the passer-by “in a new light”. The second intervention was a protest with the same objective.

Proiectul de arta publica Red Spot a aparut in anul 2007 avand partener pe arh. Adriana Mereuta si Universitatea de Arhitectura si Urbanism “Ion Mincu”, Ordinul Arhitectilor din Romania – Filiala Bucuresti a avut prima aparitie in cadrul “stART Dambovita”, unde a “semnalat” una dintre problemele majore ale capitalei romanesti – raul Dambovita (expo / sondaj / performance / promo / instalatii artistice). Proiect semnal ce isi propune sa scoata in evidenta zone lasate in paragina, dar reprezentative pentru oras, si sa le aduca privitorului “intr-o alta lumina”. A doua interventie s-a prezentat intr-o actiune protest avand acelasi obiectiv.

Cabina de Telefon/Phone Box 2007-2008

The offers of the mobile phones companies are at competition and for the new generations the phone represents more than a means of communication. For them the mobile phone is a way of living. Its brand, colour the gesture with which one answers the mobile, the call bell show the identity of the individual who possesses it. On the other hand the call box is assaulted. It has become a social place. It is physically assaulted by the urban society. The windows of the call box are usually broken. And yet there are extreme situations when individuals need this call box and make phone calls. People pass indifferently by it. No one sees it no one asks any questions about it. It is sometimes used as a shelter against rain.

Telefonul fix a devenit o forma de comunicare mai rapida si este identitatea generatiei mai in varsta. In schimb mobilul s-a raspandit extrem de mult si rapid. Ofertele companiilor telefonice mobile se intrec in oferte iar noile generatii iau telefonul mai mult decat ca o simpla metoda de comunicare. Pentru ei mobilul inseamna un mod de viata. Marca lui, culoarea, gestul cu care raspunde la telefon sau formarea altui numar, soneria apelului, etc. ne arata identitatea celui care il are. In schimb cabina de telefon este agresata. Ea a devenit un loc social. Este agresata fizic de societatea urbana. In general cam toate geamurile sunt sparte. De altfel in cazuri de extrema urgenta indivizii mai dau cite un telefon din ea. Lumea trece pe linga ea cu indiferenta. Nimeni nu isi pune intrebari asupra acestui spatiu, de ce arata asa, cum ar arata altfel etc. De multe ori ea devine doar adapost pentru ploaie.

MOnuMENTS este un proiect de structura documentara, artistic, cultural si social atingand si o latura economica. Proiectul MM descompune si cartografieaza harta tarii noastre in mai multe parti. Propune un dialog intre spatii rurale si urbane, intre mentalitati din diferite colturi ale PATRIEI NOASTRE, se doreste un proiect-apel la regandirea rolului artei in viata noastra.

MOnuMENTS is a project about the documentary, artistic, cultural and social structure, touching on the economics too. The MOnuMENTS project decomposes and maps out our country in many components. It opens a dialogue in between the rural and urban spaces, in between different mentalities from different corners of OUR COUNTRY(Romania), it is meant to be a signal-project to rethink the role of art in our lives.

Urban Traces 2007-2008

Tot din mediul urban a plecat si proiectul Urban Traces – a rezultat ca parte din aceasta actiune dar in orase precum Bucuresti, Iasi, Cluj, abordand pe rand subiecte precum poluarea urbana, fonica si ca punct terminus incalzirea globala. Acest proiect a inceput acum un an si a populat atat spatii conventionale (galerii, muzeu) cat si spatii neconventionale (apartament, cabina telefonica, metrou, magazin).

The project “Urban Traces” was born from the same urban environment – in cities like Bucharest, Iasi, Cluj, it has been focused on subjects such as the urban and noise pollution and as a final point, global warming. This project was started one year ago and it has populated since conventional spaces (art galleries, museums) as well as some unconventional ones (apartment, phone box, the underground, shops).

Ca opozitie a proiectelor urbane a aparut proiectul ASEZareaTRECereaCERCul unde am punctat un alt tip de identitate, o identitate pierduta care vorbeste despre intoarcerea individului urban in natura. In cadrul aceluiasi simpozion international HUMAn am avut o actiune-instalatie in satul Cucuteni numit VERDE. Aceasta a fost o “intrebare” pusa cetatenilor comunei avand ca subiect influenta incalzirii globale asupra Urbanului si Ruralului.

Opposed to the urban projects, the project ASEZareaTRECereaCERCul was created, which helped us pinpoint another type of identity – a lost identity which speaks about the returning of the urban individual to nature. During the same HUMAn international symposium we had an installation-act in the Cucuteni village called VERDE. This was a “question” asked to the inhabitants of the village, regarding the global warming effect towards the Urban and the Rural.

În 27, 28 si 28 noiembrie 2008, timp de trei nopti, intre orele 18.00 si 7.00, spoturi rosii au luminat 11 imobile degradate din centrul Bucurestilor, care, în timpul zilei, au fost marcate cu stickere, 11 imobile de pe strazile Budisteanu, Lutherana, Theodor Aman si Calea Grivitei, cu valoare estetica si istorica certa, cazute în uitare.

Proiectul RED SPOT si-a propus atragerea atentiei asupra acelor locuri care sunt lasate în paragina. Centrul capitalei este un astfel de spatiu uitat de mult prea mult timp si nu este singurul. Foarte multe strazi se degradeaza sub ochii nostri odata cu cladirile, monumentele de patrimoniu, chiar, care sunt foarte numeroase si care accentueaza aspectul neîngrijit si atmosfera gri din Bucuresti.

Sunt locuri pe care le vedem în fiecare zi si cu care ne-am obisnuit atât de tare, ca nici nu le mai percepem cu adevarat, ne devin indiferente, uitând ca fac parte din viata noastra zilnica.

Cladirilor si strazilor li se adauga oamenii, cei care au locuit odata în aceste monumente de arhitectura a epocii Parisului din Est, dar si cei care locuiesc acum în unele dintre ele – chiriasi sau proprietari repusi în drepturile lor. Nu sunt doar ei oamenii în cauza. Li se aduga cei care fac parte dintr-un prezent care contureaza viitorul. Proprietari carora li s-au retrocedat proprietatile furate de o alta epoca a Bucurestilor se pozitioneaza acum fara de ele de o maniera business imediata, care presupune în general demolarea casei ale carei reparatii înseamna bani si timp, orientându-se spre o valorificare imediata a terenului. Ceea ce se omite aici este faptul ca proprietatea, imobilul, face parte din identitatea unei zone, care nu mai apartine unui singur proprietar, fie el si statul român, ci apartine unui oras. Orasul nu este doar o suma de cladiri, strazi si institutii, ci si oamenii care îl locuiesc si care îl fac sa traiasca.

Faptul ca oamenii determina pulsul urbei le confera acestora vreun drept asupra elementelor sale (cladiri, institutii, norme etc.)? Daca da, ce drepturi si cum sunt ele folosite, aplicate de catre noi, locuitori? Sau cum ar trebui s-o facem? Care sunt primele locuri spre care ar trebui si ne îndreptam atentia? De ce? Ce le face speciale? Ce le-a construit? Care le este istoria? Care este valoarea lor istorica, arhitecturala, estetica, identitara? Mai putem salva ceva? Ne mai putem salva istoria? O mai putem integra în prezentul si viitorul orasului nostru astfel încât sa pastram bucuria apartenentei noastre la o capitala europeana cu identitate proprie?

Raportul dintre trecutul, prezentul si viitorul Bucurestilor se suprapune raportului dintre istoria orasului, santierele prezentului si istoria construita de actiunea si/sau pasivitatea locuitorilor sai – indivizi, grupuri, asociatii, institutii (publice si private).

RED SPOT este o chemare la depasirea ignorantei fata de propria noastra istorie, fata de propriul trecut si prezent, la depasirea nepasarii fata de propriul nostru viitor.

EXPOZITIE INTERACTIVA DE PROIECTE DE ARTA PUBLICA SI COMUNITARA

tu decizi, tu participi, tu schimbi

Expozitia a adus în atentia publicului noi idei de interventii artistice destinate spatiului public bucurestean, propuneri prezentate de programul I love Bucharest sub forma interactiva, într-un spatiu interior amenajat pentru a recrea dimensiunea exterioara. Înca o data, propunerile programului au ridicat problema angajamentului si responsabilitatii civice în procesul de reabilitare urbana prin mijloacele artei.

Publicul a fost antrenat în desfasurarea expozitiei prin votarea propunerilor preferate si prin participarea la dezvoltarea catorva dintre proiectele propuse.

street delivery 2006-2008

Art Delivery – un proiect de cooperare între diferite institutii publice, numeroase ONG-uri si initiative private, printre care si Galeria “Grigore Mora”, care a ales si prezinte proaspatul program de arta publica si comunitara, I love Bucharest. Desfasurat pe una dintre str?zile din centrul capitalei, evenimentul a fost primul dintr-o serie ce a continuat în fiecare an. Organizatiile culturale s-au alaturat într-un demers de constientizare si angajare în problema “invaziei masinilor” în spatiul orasului. I love Bucharest s-a prezentat atunci publicului, a organizat câteva actiuni participative si a initiat câteva proiecte care s-au continuat în anii urmatori.
Street Delivery a fost tema declarata a celei de-a doua editii a evenimentului. I love Bucharest si galeria de arta au participat cu proiecte originale, care au atras din nou un important segment al publicului evenimentului si au câstigat noi aderenti la valorile programului.
Street Delivery – 1-3 iunie 2007
Pentru editia a doua a “traseului cultural Arthur Verona”, I love Bucharest a venit cu doua proiecte interactive:
Curierul (proiect propus de arh. Adriana Mereuta), un exercitiu liber de comunicare unul cu celelalalt, având ca subiect de discutie orasul Bucuresti, oras în care locuim sau pe care doar îl tranzitam. De cele mai multe ori, acest celalalt ramâne suspendat în paginile care se rescriu în fiecare an în cartea de telefoane. De aceasta data, distanta dintre noi a fost micsorata prin intermediul scrisorilor propuse ca mijloc de comunicare.
Galeria de Portrete (proiect propus de Virginia Toma), adresându-se în aceeasi masura tuturor, prin intermediul desenului, geografie umana ce urma sa se materializeze printr-o expozitie, care, din motive obiective, n-a mai putut fi organizata.
Grupul focAR, prezent alaturi de I Love Bucharest la acest eveniment, a prezentat proiectul Urban Traces, o actiune interactiva în care cetatenii, indivizii urbani, si-au imprimat pur si simplu gândurile. Suportul acestor printuri ale gândurilor a fost reprezentat de zidurile si mobilierul urban din zona, precum si un plic mare din pânza, continuând seria spatiilor neconventionale ale desfasurarii proiectului (care a debutat la începutul 2007) si interactionând astfel cu proiectul Curierul.
Proiectele au fost organizate ?i sus?inute de Asociatia din Pod, Galeria “Grigore Mora” si Avrig 35.

Expozitia de propuneri de interventii artistice pentru spatiul statiei de metrou Piata Victoriei 1 a avut loc în galeria sub_Carturesti din capitala în perioada 21 octombrie-11noiembrie 2008.

23 de propuneri au fost prezentate publicului pentru alegere, votul acestuia fiind considerat în pondere egala cu votul juriului (format din reprezentanti ai muzeelor, Metrorex, UniCredit Tiriac Bank si TimeOut).

Peste 500 de vizitatori ai expozitiei au votat cu entuziasm si responsabilitate proiectele preferate. Au fost selectate 10 instalatii si obiecte decorative printre care si metrocarpet.

Case pentru Îngeri, un al doilea proiect româno-britanic de arta comunitara, a fost organizat si s-a desfasurat la centrul pentru copii al Fundatiei Sfanta Macrina din Bucuresti, în perioada 17-30 iunie 2007.

Timp de 2 saptamani, o echipa de 10 artisti au lucrat împreuna cu copiii si au dezvoltat un proiect destinat decorarii noii cladiri a centrului.
Pe baza elementelor create în timpul celor cateva ateliere de creatie desfasurate cu rezidentii, copii din familii dezavantajate, au fost realizate o pictura murala interioara si doua instalatii decorative pentru exterior.

Proiectul a fost realizat de artisti din echipa I love Bucharest împreuna cu artisti ai Free Form Arts Trust din Londra, coordonator Alina Tudor.

bucharest metroART

Se schimba fata metroului. Nu a trenurilor, ci a statiilor – a statiei Piata Victoriei, mai precis. Pentru ca in preajma acestei statii se afla 3 muzee unice in peisajul bucurestean, national si chiar european: Muzeul Taranului Roman, Muzeul de Istorie Naturala “Grigore Antipa” si Muzeul National de Geologie.
Artistii echipei I love Bucharest, program de arta publica si comunitara organizat de Asociatia din Pod si sustinut de Fundatia MORA, si-au propus sa le semnalizeze, sa le anunte prezenta în vecinatate, pentru toti cei care calatoresc cu metroul – bucuresteni si turisti deopotriva.
Noua “fizionomie” a statiei de metrou va fi realizata in cursul anului viitor. Dar procesul de creatie incepe deja, cu ateliere de creatie pentru copii, desfasurate in spatiul celor 3 muzee si coordonate de artisti englezi si romani.

Asadar, artistii echipei I love Bucharest invita copiii talentati, care deja s-au remarcat in cadrul cursurilor organizate de Galeria MORA si de catre cele trei Muzee si le dea o mana de ajutor. Chiar doua.
